{"id":532,"date":"2011-11-15T20:45:01","date_gmt":"2011-11-16T00:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theubbdeception.ca\/?p=532"},"modified":"2020-12-22T16:53:43","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T16:53:43","slug":"update-on-the-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.milnoc.com\/theubbdeception\/news\/update-on-the-35\/","title":{"rendered":"Update on &#8220;The 35&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On October 5 2011, the <a href=\"http:\/\/crtc.gc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission <\/a>(the CRTC) published the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crtc.gc.ca\/eng\/publications\/reports\/rp1110.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results of the fact-finding exercise on the over-the-top programming services.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The CRTC has decided not to intervene in this matter, stating in their release:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230;the evidence does not demonstrate that the presence of <acronym title=\"over-the-top\">OTT<\/acronym> providers in Canada and greater consumption of <acronym title=\"over-the-top\">OTT<\/acronym> content is having a negative impact on the ability of the system to achieve the policy objectives of the <em>Broadcasting Act<\/em> or that there are structural impediments to a competitive response by licensed undertakings to the activities of <acronym title=\"over-the-top\">OTT<\/acronym> providers.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result, the CRTC will not recommend that any new taxes or levies be implemented, and will maintain their current &#8220;hands-off&#8221; approach over the Internet in Canada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 5 2011, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (the CRTC) published the Results of the fact-finding exercise on the over-the-top programming services.
